The weekend of running in Cardiff commenced with a day filled with fun activities and races, leading up to the highly anticipated Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday. On Saturday, crowds gathered to participate in a variety of events organized by Run4Wales. The day kicked off with the Toddler Dash at 10.30am, followed by the Future Challengers Races at 11am, and the Family Fun Run at 11.45am.
The Toddler Dash featured a lively 50m run for children aged three and below, while the Future Challengers race showcased young athletes aged between eight and 17 competing in a one-mile race. The Family Fun Run provided a no-pressure 2.4k race for participants of all abilities. The races were started by Dylan, Principality Building Society’s mascot, and Buddy, the NSPCC’s mascot. The NSPCC also organized zoo yoga and a special storytime session at their stand.
With Sunday marking the 21st edition of the Principality Cardiff Half Marathon, over 27,500 people have registered to participate in the event. The marathon has significantly grown since its inception by Barnardo’s in 2003, attracting just 1,500 runners at that time.
