A new campaign aimed at supporting men’s mental health has been launched with the help of football pundit Jimmy Bullard. Pringles and men’s health charity Movember recently unveiled the Scan & Scran Café, a traditional British caff pop-up dedicated to facilitating discussions about mental health and wellbeing. The initiative comes in light of research indicating that almost half of British men struggle to ask a friend if they are okay, with 71% admitting they need more guidance on how to broach conversations about mental health.
The café serves as a space where visitors can scan a QR code on select Pringles tubes, featuring Mr P’s iconic moustache, to access the Movember Conversations tool. This tool offers valuable advice on how to effectively check in with friends who may be in need of support. Additionally, guests at the café were introduced to the ALEC method endorsed by Movember for engaging in conversations about mental health – Ask, Listen, Encourage action, and Check in.
Despite progress in destigmatizing mental health discussions, the research indicated that nearly four in ten men still perceive a stigma surrounding men and mental health. Jimmy Bullard expressed his support for the campaign, emphasizing the importance of normalizing conversations around mental wellbeing. Bullard highlighted the prevalence of taboos related to mental health discussions and stressed the significance of breaking these barriers.
Movember’s Country Director for the UK and Europe, Anne-Cecile Berthier, emphasised the importance of fostering connections and encouraging open dialogues about mental health. The partnership between Pringles and Movember aims to empower individuals to engage in conversations that can alleviate the burden of mental health struggles. The collaboration, ongoing since 2020, has raised over £1 million in Europe to fund Movember’s pivotal mental health initiatives.
Pringles and Movember’s joint efforts focus on showcasing the value of social connections and the impact of supportive conversations. With a commitment to promoting mental wellbeing, the organisations offer resources and tools to facilitate discussions about mental health.
