Tech mogul Mike Lynch’s cause of death confirmed after luxury yacht tragedy
Mike Lynch, the prominent tech entrepreneur, has been confirmed to have drowned after a tragic incident involving the sinking of the superyacht Bayesian off the coast of Sicily. Inquests have revealed that three other British nationals also lost their lives in the incident, with investigations ongoing to determine the exact causes of their deaths.
The billionaire businessman, aged 59, along with his daughter Hannah Lynch, 18, Jonathan Bloomer, 70, chairman of Morgan Stanley International bank, and his wife Judy Bloomer, 71, were among those aboard the ill-fated vessel. Suffolk Police Detective Superintendent Mike Brown disclosed that the Bayesian sank suddenly between 4.15am and 4.45am on August 19, leading to the tragic deaths. Subsequent search efforts resulted in the discovery of bodies in the cabins, with the time of death recorded as 5am on the same day.
In separate inquests opened and adjourned in Ipswich, provisional medical cause of death for Mike Lynch was determined as drowning following a post-mortem examination, while the causes of death for Hannah Lynch and the Bloomers are still under investigation. The tragic deaths of the Bloomers were confirmed on August 21, and Hannah Lynch’s death was confirmed on August 23.
The incident, which claimed seven lives out of the 22 people onboard, including US lawyer Chris Morvillo, his spouse Neda Morvillo, and chef Recaldo Thomas, has sparked investigations by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) and Italian authorities to determine the circumstances surrounding the yacht’s sinking. The tragic event occurred as a celebratory trip following Mike Lynch’s acquittal in a fraud case in the US.
Lynch, known for founding Autonomy in 1996, had been cleared of fraud allegations just prior to the yacht tragedy. The investigation into the cause of the sinking and the subsequent deaths remains ongoing, and further hearings are scheduled for next year. The community mourns the loss of these individuals, and investigations aim to provide answers to the families affected by this heartbreaking event.
