He attacked his partner with a vodka bottle and tried to stop her getting help

A man has been sentenced for attacking his partner with a vodka bottle, leaving her with severe head injuries during a holiday in Llandudno. Osasuyi Odeh, 37, from Ipswich, struck his partner over the head with a vodka bottle, leading to her needing 12 staples, Mold Crown Court was told. Odeh pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and causing criminal damage. The incident occurred after a dispute at a fish and chip shop in Conwy, escalating when the couple returned to their hotel in Llandudno. Odeh pushed his partner onto the bed, threatened self-harm, threw a laptop at her knee, and struck her with the vodka bottle, telling her to “stay here.” Despite his efforts to stop her, the victim managed to reach the hotel reception for help after losing consciousness. The attack resulted in a significant head wound requiring 12 staples and bruising to her hand.

The victim stated that the assault had made her paranoid, leading to anxiety for which she was prescribed medication. She expressed ongoing pain from her injuries and a need for therapy. Odeh, with prior convictions for domestic violence and drink driving, received a 21-month prison sentence, with half to be served behind bars and the rest on licence. A restraining order was imposed for five years to prevent contact with the victim, alongside a financial penalty. Odeh’s defence emphasised his remorse, acceptance of the relationship’s end, and positive aspects of his character, including employment and parental responsibilities. The judge attributed the incident to Odeh’s alcohol consumption and highlighted the importance of addressing this issue. Odeh received a suspended sentence previously and will now spend time in custody following this latest conviction.
