A man who tragically passed away while participating in a triathlon has been fondly remembered as a “loving husband, father, and grandfather.”
Andrew Ireland, 61, lost his life during the swimming portion of the Swansea Triathlon on Sunday.
Activity Event Wales, the organization behind the event, expressed their condolences to the family, confirming the heartbreaking news with “heavy hearts.”
In a statement, Mr. Ireland’s family expressed their profound sorrow but found solace in the numerous messages of sympathy and support they have received.
They shared, “Andrew was not only a dedicated charity worker for the homeless but also a passionate advocate for Welsh football. He was an enthusiastic cyclist and triathlete, proudly affiliated with the Tondu Wheelers and a regular participant in Parkrun events.”
The family also extended their gratitude to the emergency services, event organizers, volunteers, and individuals who offered their assistance at the scene.
