Travel Expert Urges Travellers to Allow Extra Time Amidst Implementation of New Security Measures
Travellers heading to popular European destinations such as France, Spain, Greece, Italy, and Portugal are advised to prepare for enhanced security procedures as airports across the EU introduce new rules. From November onwards, individuals journeying from the UK to EU nations will encounter biometric checks. While this may seem unusual initially, it will become routine as more airports implement the new system.”
The European Union’s entry-exit system (EES) incorporates biometric security protocols that capture travellers’ physical characteristics through fingerprint scanners or facial recognition to confirm their identity. One notable advantage is the automation of entry gates for the most part. Upon exit from the host country, the EES will automatically calculate the duration of the traveller’s stay, aiding in combatting visa overstays and fortifying border security. The new biometric system employs cutting-edge technology to collect biometric data, such as fingerprints or facial images, during immigration clearance. This data is cross-referenced with security databases to affirm the individual’s identity.
