Man in 50s dies after ‘exposure to chemical’

A man in his 50s has tragically died after being exposed to a chemical in Merseyside, emergency services have confirmed. The incident occurred at a semi-detached property on Douglas Avenue in Billinge village. Emergency crews responded to reports of a cardiac arrest at around 10:20 am on Saturday. Upon inspection, a works van outside the property was checked for a potential chemical spill, which was later determined to be safe by the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service. The service stated that one individual was affected by exposure to xylene at the property and despite efforts from emergency responders, the casualty was pronounced dead at the scene.

North West Ambulance Service paramedics, along with two fire engines and police personnel, attended the scene. Merseyside Police have disclosed that the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and his next of kin have been informed.
