The 13 amazing winners of the 2024 Child of Wales Awards

The 2024 Child of Wales Awards recently honoured 13 exceptional youngsters at a star-studded event held at the Swansea Arena. These awards aim to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of young individuals in Wales while raising funds for charities. Hosted by Gethin Jones, the ceremony featured appearances from popular figures like Love Island’s Liam Reardon, Paige Thorne, and The Traitor’s Andrew Jenkins. The evening also included a special message from the cast of Gavin & Stacey, adding to the glamour and excitement of the event.

The winners of the various categories included remarkable children who have shown immense courage, resilience, and dedication. Among them was eighteen-year-old Eden Lewis, who bravely faced a terminal cancer diagnosis while excelling in academics and pursuing her passion for Animal Care. Another incredible story was that of eight-year-old conjoined twins, Marieme and Ndeye Ndiaye, who continue to thrive against all odds. The Ridler Family, who battled cancer with their young son Morgan and raised significant funds for charitable causes, were recognised with the Courageous Family award.

Poppy Roberts, a devoted young carer for her autistic brothers, was hailed as the Exceptional Young Carer while Faith in Families, a Swansea-based charity providing vital services to families in need, received the Outstanding Charities award. Rhys James, an eleven-year-old with Cystic Fibrosis, raised thousands for charity through sports memorabilia events, showcasing his determination and generosity. Additionally, Theo Pulman was honoured with the Bravery Award for his quick thinking and lifesaving actions at the beach.

Jaiden-Rees Griffiths, a talented dancer overcoming self-confidence issues, was awarded Young Performer of the year, while Celyn Matthews-Williams from Llanelli was recognised as the Community Champion for her impactful community initiatives. Alyssa Faith Fallorina Dean, an environmental champion, impressed with her sustainability efforts, making survival blankets from crisp packet wrappers for the homeless.

In the sporting category, Tomi Roberts-Jones, who overcame cerebral palsy and epilepsy to become a para-athlete, and Megan Thyer, a Jujitsu prodigy representing Great Britain internationally, received accolades for their athletic achievements. Soffia Kelly, a young leader and football player, was commended for her determination and community spirit in the face of adversity.
