Co-op Food Issues ‘Do Not Eat’ Warning Due to Serious Contamination
Co-op has initiated a recall for its Smooth Brussels Pate following concerns of potential bacterial contamination with salmonella and listeria. The affected 175g packs, identified by Use By dates of 19 November 2024, 21 November 2024, and 28 November 2024, are currently under investigation for the presence of harmful bacteria. Salmonella infections typically result in symptoms like fever, diarrhoea, and abdominal cramps, while listeria monocytogenes can lead to flu-like symptoms such as high temperature, muscle pain, chills, nausea, and diarrhoea. Certain vulnerable groups, including individuals over 65, pregnant women, infants under one month old, and those with weakened immune systems, are at higher risk of listeria infections. Customers who have purchased the affected product are urged not to consume it but to return it to their local store for a refund or replacement. Alternatively, they can contact the Co-op Customer Careline on 0800 0686 727 for further assistance.
For online purchases, customers should call 03300417737 for a refund or fill out an e-mail form on the Co-op website. Symptoms of food poisoning, as outlined by the NHS, include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, high temperature (38C or above), and a general feeling of unwellness like fatigue, aches, and chills. These symptoms typically manifest within a few days of consuming contaminated food. To manage food poisoning at home, it is crucial to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or squash to prevent dehydration.
In light of the contamination issue, Co-op has prioritised customer safety by issuing the recall and providing guidance on how to handle the affected product. Stay informed and stay safe.
