A killer who brutally stabbed a man in the leg four times while enforcing a drug debt and left him to bleed to death is due to be sentenced today. The victim, Daniel Rae, 30, was murdered at his home in Treforest, Pontypridd, by Kieran Carter, 22. Carter’s frenzied attack took place after an exchange of angry messages where Mr Rae owed him money for drugs. The killer messaged Mr Rae, threatening him with severe punishment if the debt was not settled.
Marching to Mr Rae’s home on December 17, Carter barged into his bedroom and carried out the vicious attack with a knife, inflicting fatal wounds on Mr Rae’s leg and forearm. Mr Rae was found dead by his flatmates, sitting upright next to a blood-soaked mattress. Despite efforts by emergency services, he was declared dead at the scene. Witnesses reported hearing noises of glass smashing and things being broken before Carter fled the house.
Following the murder, Carter was seen running from the scene with a knife in his hand, which was later disposed of and never recovered. Carter sought help for an injury to his hand at Chad Joy’s residence, where Amy Jones also provided assistance. They arranged for Grace Dresser to pick up Carter and drive him to a hospital in Birmingham. Carter was eventually arrested at the hospital after bloodstains matched his DNA at the crime scene.
After a three-week trial, Carter was found guilty of murder, while Joy was found guilty of assisting an offender and Jones was found guilty of perverting the course of justice. Dresser was acquitted of assisting an offender. The sentencing is set to take place today to determine the fate of the killer and his associates, who were involved in aiding Carter after the heinous crime.
Updates on the sentencing will follow as the court proceedings unfold. The trial has shed light on the tragic loss of Daniel Rae and the events leading up to his untimely death, revealing the disturbing details of the brutal attack that took place in Pontypridd.
