Amy Dowden says she is getting used to new normal on Strictly

Amy Dowden is adjusting to a “new normal” as she continues her journey on Strictly Come Dancing after battling cancer. The 34-year-old Welsh professional dancer is paired with JLS star JB Gill in the latest season of the BBC One show and recently performed her first live dance of the series.

Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine show, Dowden shared about her experience, stating, “It’s a new normal, and I’ve got a new upper body because I have a hormone-fed cancer, I’ve been put into menopause.” She further reflected on her weight gain during treatment but expressed pride in her body for getting her through such a challenging time.

Dowden, who found a lump before her honeymoon in 2023, underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy for breast cancer, causing her to sit out last year’s season. A recent health check showed no evidence of disease, marking her return to the dance floor. The professional dancer also revealed her plans to perform a “quite sexy” cha cha cha, a side of her not seen before on the show.

Partnered with JB Gill, Dowden and Gill impressed the judges with a waltz to When I Need You by Leo Sayer, landing them at the top of the leaderboard. Their chemistry and dedication are evident as they strive to deliver outstanding performances each week.

Fans of Strictly Come Dancing can catch Amy Dowden and JB Gill in action on Saturday nights on BBC One as they continue to captivate audiences with their talent and perseverance. The duo’s journey on the show serves as a source of inspiration and hope for many, showcasing the power of resilience and passion in the face of adversity.
