Quality Street bringing back nostalgic sweet axed in 1980s

Quality Street Set to Revive Nostalgia with Return of Classic Sweet Axed in the 1980s

Nestle has announced the exciting return of an iconic sweet that was discontinued in the 1980s – the Coffee Creme. Originally part of the Quality Street selection tin since 1936, the Coffee Creme was sadly removed in the 1980s. After a limited comeback last year, the chocolate giant has confirmed its return for this Christmas season. Available exclusively at John Lewis and Waitrose, the Coffee Creme – a coffee-flavoured fondant wrapped in dark chocolate – will be a cherished addition to the 11 other sweets in the Quality Street range.

Customers can look forward to creating their own bespoke mix of Quality Street favourites at pick and mix stations in selected John Lewis stores across the UK. Moreover, the Coffee Creme will be featured in a limited-edition cracker at Waitrose and John Lewis outlets. The reintroduction allows shoppers to curate their own unique collection of Quality Street treats to enjoy or share as gifts during the festive period. The popular pick and mix crackers will also be making a return this year for added enjoyment.

In addition to the return of the Coffee Creme, a new design for the Quality Street tin has been unveiled, inspired by the brand’s heritage in Halifax where the sweets are still produced. This festive tin design pays homage to the factory and its dedicated workers. Known for being passed down through generations, the new tin design will be a cherished addition to family traditions, ensuring longevity and nostalgia for years to come.

Emily Grimbley, Brand Manager for Quality Street, expressed her delight at the return of the Coffee Creme, highlighting its popularity among fans. She emphasised the significance of the pick and mix stations at John Lewis, providing customers with the opportunity to create tailored assortments of their favourite sweets for their loved ones.

Lisa Cherry, Christmas Buying Lead at John Lewis, shared the excitement of welcoming back Quality Street for the upcoming festive season. The exclusive collection of baubles has already been a hit, and the anticipated return of the Coffee Creme alongside the limited-edition tin design is expected to be warmly received by shoppers.

For those eager to indulge in the nostalgia of Quality Street, the pick and mix station at John Lewis’s flagship Oxford Street store will open on September 25, with other stores set to follow throughout October. The John Lewis exclusive tin, Coffee Crème Cracker, and personalised pouches will be available at John Lewis and Waitrose stores nationwide.

The list of stores participating in the pick and mix stations includes Bluewater, Cambridge, Cardiff, Cheadle, Cribbs Causeway, Edinburgh, Glasgow, High Wycombe, Kingston, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Nottingham, Oxford Street, Peter Jones, Solihull, Southampton, and Trafford.

With the revival of the beloved Coffee Creme and the introduction of the new festive tin design, Quality Street looks set to reignite fond memories and create new traditions this Christmas season.
