Bodies of woman and eight-year-old girl found at house

The bodies of a woman and a young girl were found at a property in the Salford area of Manchester on Monday morning (September 23). Emergency crews were called to the scene on South Radford Street shortly after 10.30am after receiving a concern for welfare call. Upon arrival, a 40-year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl were found dead inside the residence.

Police, paramedics, and fire crews taped off the residential street after the tragic discovery. A cordon remained in place throughout Monday as investigations into the deaths were launched. All known next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers, police said.

Multiple emergency response teams were dispatched, including ambulances, police cars, and fire brigade vehicles. Officers maintained a presence outside one of the homes before forensic experts arrived, reports the Manchester Evening News. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have opened an investigation into the incident.

Detective Superintendent Simon Moyles from GMP’s Salford branch said: “A woman and a young girl were both tragically found dead, and we are working hard as a team to establish what happened here this morning.” He reassured the public that they believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat in the community.

A Salford City Council spokesperson expressed condolences, saying, “We are aware of the terribly sad news this morning, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of those who have tragically lost their lives.” The council is working closely with GMP to support residents and council staff affected by the events.
