Flood alerts issued as heavy showers and thunderstorms hit Wales

Flood alerts have been issued in Wales as heavy showers and thunderstorms sweep across the region. The alerts, issued by Natural Resources Wales, come in the wake of an extended yellow weather warning from the Met Office, urging the public to prepare for possible flooding and power cuts.

The Met Office has predicted significant rainfall over the weekend, with some areas expecting to see 30-50mm of rain in just six hours. The adverse weather conditions are part of a stormy low-pressure system affecting the UK. The warnings cover a period from Saturday to Monday, highlighting the potential risks posed by the inclement weather.

As of now, Natural Resources Wales has issued five flood alerts but no flood warnings or severe flood warnings. Coastal areas such as Ceredigion, Swansea Bay, Gower, North Gower, Carmarthenshire, and Pembrokeshire are particularly at risk due to high tides and the possibility of flooding on low-lying land and roads.

In Ceredigion, the coast between Clarach and Cardigan faces a risk of flooding, while similar risks are present along Swansea Bay, Gower, North Gower, Carmarthenshire, and Pembrokeshire coastlines. Natural Resources Wales is actively monitoring the situation and advising caution in these areas.
