Twins threatened to blow up police station and cars during Ely riots

Twin brothers threatened to blow up a police station and cars during the Ely riots in May 2023. Morgan and Jayden Williams, both 18 years old, engaged in the threats during the unrest following the tragic deaths of two teenagers, Harvey Evans and Kyrees Sullivan, in Ely. The twins, from Pentwyn and Grangetown, made menacing comments towards South Wales Police property at a police cordon on Wilson Road. Morgan Williams warned officers, stating, “Your station, your police station is getting blown up tonight, on my brother’s grave,” and added, “Even your houses, I’ll find out where you live.” Meanwhile, Jayden Williams threatened, “All these 30 cars are getting blown up.”

Both Morgan and Jayden pleaded guilty to charges of threatening to cause criminal damage. They are set to be sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on October 21 along with other individuals connected to the public disorder incidents. The pair, among a group of 31 charged individuals, were not specifically charged with rioting offences. The prosecution detailed the events of the riots that unfolded on May 22, 2023, following a report of a road traffic collision involving the two teenagers. As tensions grew amidst rumors of police involvement in the collision, a cordon was established on Stanway Road and surrounding areas.

The court proceedings highlighted the confrontational behaviour towards the police by members of the public present at the scene. The Williams brothers’ threats of violence towards police property were condemned, with the prosecution outlining the events leading up to their arrests. The attorney provided insight into the circumstances surrounding the riots, shedding light on the tragic incident that spurred the unrest. These accounts underscore the serious nature of the threats posed during the tumultuous events in Ely. The court’s decision on the sentencing of Morgan and Jayden Williams will be eagerly awaited as the judicial process unfolds.
