Sir Andy Murray Denies Rumours of Appearance on Strictly Come Dancing
Tennis legend Sir Andy Murray has confirmed that he will not be making an appearance on the popular television show, Strictly Come Dancing. During the BMW PGA Championship Pro-AM in Surrey on Wednesday, Sir Andy, who retired last year, expressed that it is “highly unlikely” he would participate in the show. However, he hinted that his brother, professional tennis player Jamie Murray, might consider taking part. While speaking with the PA news agency, Sir Andy stated, “That’s highly unlikely. Don’t know what my brother will be doing. But it certainly won’t be me, that’s for sure.”
Their mother, Judy Murray, had previously participated in the 12th series of the BBC dancing show. She was eliminated in week eight at Blackpool Tower after performing a Viennese Waltz to Let’s Go Fly A Kite from Mary Poppins alongside professional dancer Anton Du Beke, who is now a judge on the show.
The current lineup of contestants on Strictly Come Dancing includes a mix of personalities such as Miranda actress Sarah Hadland, X Factor winner Shayne Ward, and Love Island star Tasha Ghouri. Other participants include Gladiator and Olympian Montell Douglas, EastEnders’ Jamie Borthwick, and Olympian Tom Dean. The show also features familiar faces like former England footballer Paul Merson, Olympic hockey gold medallist Sam Quek, and comedian Chris McCausland among others.
Meanwhile, BBC director general Tim Davie mentioned that the corporation is close to concluding its investigation into allegations of abuse on the show. The investigation was initiated following allegations against professional dancer Giovanni Pernice made by his former dance partner Amanda Abbington. Pernice has denied the allegations, while fellow dancer Graziano Di Prima has also left the show following the controversy.
Sir Andy’s clarification about his involvement in Strictly Come Dancing puts an end to the speculation surrounding his potential appearance, while the ongoing investigation into the show continues to draw attention amidst the new season’s cast announcements.
