Multiple women have come forward to accuse Mohamed Al Fayed, the Egyptian billionaire who owned Harrods for over 25 years, of rape and sexual assault. The troubling allegations emerged as part of a BBC investigation, with more than 20 women sharing their stories of assault and physical violence at properties in London and Paris. Shockingly, five of these women revealed that they had been raped by Mr Al Fayed.
Mr Al Fayed, who passed away in 2023, had faced previous accusations of sexual assault and groping. Despite a police investigation in 2015 that did not result in charges, the recent wave of allegations has shed new light on the disturbing behaviour perpetrated by the late billionaire. The current owners of Harrods expressed deep horror at the revelations, stating, “As a business, we failed our employees who were his victims and for this we sincerely apologise.”

One survivor, known as Rachel, recounted her traumatic experience of being raped at one of Mr Al Fayed’s apartments after a late shift at work. She tearfully shared, “I made it obvious that I didn’t want that to happen. I did not give consent. I just wanted it to be over.” Her poignant words reflect the pain and suffering caused by such acts of violence.
Harrods issued a statement condemning Mr Al Fayed’s actions, acknowledging the failure to protect employees from his abuse during his tenure.
