The Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has advised individuals to only visit the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff if it is an absolute emergency. The health board expressed that there has been a notable surge in patients over the last 72 hours, with over 200 more people seeking treatment than usual.
This sudden influx of patients has placed considerable strain on both the University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough. As a result, people are being urged to reserve visits to the emergency department for critical situations. Those who do need to seek medical attention are advised to expect longer waiting times than normal. NHS 111 Wales is recommended for healthcare advice, guidance, and appointment bookings for out-of-hours or Minor Injuries Units. Additionally, community Primary Care teams are available to provide support.
