Wetherspoon names 10 pubs that could close as venues go on sale

Wetherspoon Pubs Across the UK Up for Sale

Pub chain J D Wetherspoon currently has 10 venues on the market, including landmark buildings in Cardiff, Swindon, and Felixstowe. However, there is hope for some pubs as previously listed establishments have been spared closure and will continue to operate. For example, the Thomas Drummond site in Fleetwood, which was initially listed for sale in February, will now remain open much to the delight of the local community and staff.

These are the current Wetherspoon sites up for sale:
– The Pontlottyn, Abertillery
– The Ivor Davies, Cardiff
– Spa Lane Vaults, Chesterfield
– The Sir Daniel Arms, Swindon
– The Plough and Harrow, London
– Sennockian, Sevenoaks
– Hain Line, St Ives
– Lord Claud Hamilton, Felixstowe (underdeveloped site)
– Barid’s Department Store, Hamilton (underdeveloped site)
– Foot of the Walk, Leith
– The Quay, Poole

Additionally, The Cross Keys in Peebles is currently under offer. Despite recent closures, owner Tim Martin has stated that most affected pubs were “smaller and older” or in close proximity to another site.

The chain has closed 12 pubs this year, with the London & Rye Wetherspoon in Catford being the latest one to shut down permanently. While some drinkers fear the chain may be facing challenges, plans are in place for a new Wetherspoons hotel in Southport following approval by Sefton Council. This new establishment will join the brand’s portfolio of 55 town centre hotels.

It’s essential for regulars at Wetherspoons to stay informed about the fate of their local pubs as sales and closures continue to impact the chain’s operations across the UK.
