384 Parking Charge Notices Issued by Council During Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres Tour in Stadium

Increased Parking Fines Issued During Coldplay Concert in Cardiff

Cardiff Council has reported a significant rise in the number of parking fines issued on the day of Coldplay’s concert. As the internationally renowned band prepares for their second show at Principality Stadium on Wednesday, June 7, the council is urging concert-goers to park responsibly. The council issued a total of 384 parking charge notices (PCNs) on Tuesday, June 6, during the first Music of the Spheres tour gig at the stadium. This number is expected to increase further as CCTV footage is reviewed in the coming days, as stated by the local authority.

On an average weekday, the council typically issues around 200 PCNs for parking violations, although this figure varies based on patrol officer availability. According to a spokesperson from Cardiff council, “Illegal parking is inconsiderate and often poses a danger to other road users. We receive daily complaints about parking violations that obstruct pavements and roads, endangering fellow motorists. Penalty charge notices are only issued when clear evidence of parking contravention is present. The police handle cases related to illegal parking and obstruction.” Stay informed with our Cardiff newsletter here.

With thousands of people visiting the Welsh capital for the Coldplay concerts, event parking is available at Sophia Gardens car park and the Civic Centre. Additionally, park and ride options are offered at Leckwith Stadium, and a park and walk facility is available at County Hall in Cardiff Bay. Although these facilities were busy on Tuesday, the council confirmed that they were not completely full. The council spokesperson emphasized, “We kindly request all residents and visitors attending events at Principality Stadium to park their vehicles responsibly. Failure to do so will result in a penalty charge notice being issued to the vehicle owner.”

For those attending the Coldplay concert, alternative parking options include private city center car parks and pay-and-display street parking.
