25-year-old brought back to life after mountain bike crash on holiday

A 25-year-old mountain biker named Daniel Gerrard has been brought back to life after a horrific crash during his holiday in Morzine, France. Daniel, a bike mechanic from London, ruptured his aorta and suffered several other serious injuries while attempting a notorious jump known as the Widow Maker on July 3. He was flown to a hospital in Annecy where doctors discovered internal bleeding and a collapsed lung, with friends revealing he briefly “died” during the flight.

After being transported back to the UK and undergoing multiple operations, Daniel was diagnosed with drop foot, causing him to lose mobility in his right foot. Despite the challenges, he has shown progress and can now walk safely for about 10 minutes before needing a break with the help of a specially designed orthotic brace. However, he continues to experience nerve pain and mental health struggles, including intense nightmares about the incident.

The crash, which was captured on video, left Daniel with dead tissue on his right leg that needed to be removed, leading to the development of drop foot. This condition may permanently alter his way of walking. Despite these setbacks, Daniel remains determined to recover and has received support from his girlfriend, his employer at Finches Emporium, and the WFR Mountain Biking group. He has launched a fundraiser to aid his rehabilitation, which has garnered significant contributions.

Daniel’s journey towards recovery is ongoing, with hopes of returning to work part-time in the near future. The support he has received from his loved ones and the community has been instrumental in his healing process.
