Sainsbury’s to Employ 20,000 Workers for Christmas Season
Sainsbury’s is gearing up for the festive season by hiring an additional 20,000 shop workers, warehouse staff, and drivers across the UK. The roles, which span across Sainsbury’s and Argos, will cover various tasks such as restocking shelves, preparing stock in warehouses, and making home deliveries. These seasonal positions will last from three weeks to three months, with hourly wages ranging from £12 to £13.50 for in-store and warehouse employees, and from £13 to £14.65 for drivers. Workers will also enjoy perks such as free food during shifts and a 10% discount at Sainsbury’s, increasing to 15% on Fridays and Saturdays, and on paydays at Argos.
Prerana Issar, Sainsbury’s Chief People Officer, expressed excitement about welcoming new team members during the busy Christmas period, highlighting the opportunity for personal growth and skill development. Sainsbury’s, the UK’s second-largest supermarket chain, experienced a surge in sales last Christmas, with customers purchasing a record number of festive favourites like pigs in blankets, mince pies, and sparkling wine.
