19-year-old in hospital with serious injuries after suspected hit and run

A 19-year-old has been hospitalised with serious injuries after an alleged hit and run incident in Newport. Gwent Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident which occurred on Monday, September 30. The incident involved a collision between a car, identified as a BMW 1 series, and a pedestrian, the 19-year-old, along Cardiff Road in Newport at approximately 7.45pm. The driver of the car reportedly fled the scene after the collision, as confirmed by the police.

Subsequently, a 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of multiple driving offences in connection with the incident. The authorities are urging anyone who may have relevant CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident to come forward to assist in their investigations. Police officers are seeking information from individuals who were travelling on Cardiff Road between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on the day of the incident.

In a statement released by Gwent Police, they stated, “We’re appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision in Cardiff Road, Newport, at around 7.45pm on Monday, September 30. Officers attended along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service.” The pedestrian, a 19-year-old man from Newport, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The arrested 29-year-old man from Newport is currently in police custody.
