Torrential rain in Wales on Wednesday led to 29 flood warnings and 16 flood alerts being issued across the country. The Met Office had a weather warning in place throughout the day as heavy rain caused chaos. Numerous roads were flooded, hospital sites in Cardiff reported impacts from flooding, and cars were stranded in floodwater, particularly in the Vale of Glamorgan. Rail lines between Shrewsbury and Wrexham were shut down due to the flooding.
The forecast for Thursday suggests a calmer day with dry conditions and sunny intervals, although some roads and rail lines are still affected by flooding. Natural Resources Wales maintains the flood warnings in place. In Powys, the A490 is closed in both directions between the Sarn Bryn Caled roundabout at Coed-y-dinas and The Square and Compass Pub at Cilcewydd. Transport for Wales services between Wrexham and Bidston and between Hereford and Shrewsbury have also been cancelled due to flooding.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the Met Office warns of continued unsettled weather, with potential coastal impacts from strong winds on Friday and Saturday. There is a possibility of a deep low-pressure system arriving from the Atlantic on Sunday, bringing widespread strong winds, particularly in northern and western areas. The Met Office advises keeping updated with the latest forecasts as the situation evolves.
Despite the challenges posed by the recent heavy rain, Wales is bracing for further weather disturbances in the coming days. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and prepared for any potential flood risks as the weather patterns continue to fluctuate.
