Natural Resource Wales has issued 11 flood alerts across the coast of Wales as the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto impact the UK. The alerts cover north, south, west, and mid-Wales, cautioning drivers to be vigilant on roads near the coastline and pedestrians on footpaths. This warning follows the Met Office’s issuance of a yellow weather warning for wind in parts of Wales this week.
NRW anticipates the risk of flooding in some areas to persist for a few days due to high tides hitting the coast. Among the flood alerts currently in effect are for locations such as the Glaslyn and Dwyryd Catchment, Rivers Braint and Rhyd y Valley at Dwyran, Usk Estuary, Wye Estuary in Monmouthshire, Lleyn Peninsula, North Gower Coast, Carmarthenshire coast, Pembrokeshire coast, Ceredigion coast, West Anglesey coastline, and North Wales coast.
These alerts highlight the potential for flooding of low-lying land, roads, and properties as a result of the combination of high tides and adverse weather conditions. Residents are advised to be cautious on beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths, and roads near estuaries. NRW will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed.
As Wales braces for the impacts of the storm, authorities urge the public to stay informed and take necessary precautions to stay safe amidst the challenging weather conditions.
