10 people have been arrested in Welsh towns Torfaen as a part of an investigation by Gwent Police into the criminal exploitation of children. Gwent Police’s neighbourhood, roads policing, and specialist operations and safeguarding teams conducted dawn raids at nine addresses in Pontypool and Cwmbran on Wednesday, February 26. These raids were part of a complex investigation into suspected criminal exploitation of children in the area. Among those arrested were a 30-year-old man from Pontnewynydd, a 33-year-old woman, and a 37-year-old man from Pontypool on suspicion of human trafficking and drug supply. The 33-year-old woman has been charged with drug-related offenses and remanded into custody, while the 37-year-old man was released on police bail. The 30-year-old man remains in custody.
Additionally, seven teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18 were arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs and have since been released on police bail. Another individual, a 40-year-old man, was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and has been charged with the offence. These arrests were part of a larger effort to disrupt criminal networks exploiting children.
